Men against boys'- Slick Victory put Wanderers to the sword

A blistering first-half from Melbourne Victory has handed them a comfortable 4-0 win over Western Sydney Wanderers at Marvel Stadium.

Japanese star Keisuke Honda gave Victory the ideal start as he headed home a fine team goal after just 11 minutes.

The midfielder benefiting from superb build-up from Ola Toivonen and Terry Antonis to place the ball into the bottom left for his fourth goal of the season.

Dominating play, Victory would add a second in the 31st minute with Raul Baena taking his time to control the ball in the box and pick out the bottom corner.

With the Wanderers struggling to contain Kevin Muscat's side, they'd give away a penalty just before half-time after a challenge from Tarek Elrich on Kosta Barbarouses left the referee with no choice but to point to the spot.

Barbarouses sending Vedran Janjetovic the wrong way with the spot-kick to make it 3-0 at the break.

Western Sydney, whose coach Markus Babbel described their first-half performance as 'men against boys', though they grabbed one back early in the second-half only for Oriol Riera to be denied by the offside flag.

Though taking their foot off the pedal somewhat in the second half, Victory would add a fourth in the 83rd minute as Toivonen laid it on a platter for Antonis to rifle home.

The comprehensive 4-0 win lifting Muscat's side back up to second, while Babbel will have his work cut out to turn this Wanderers side into finals contenders.
